The best way to succeed in your Giving Tuesday campaign is to begin planning early so you have enough time to get your assets, vendors and other materials ready before the big day. Have a Dedicated Online Fundraising Page

Giving Tuesday is often driven by digital communications like social media, emails and online donations, so it’s a good idea to have a donation page dedicated solely to the event. Make sure your page is easy to get to, fast and visually appealing for donors. 

When a donation page is slow, hard to use or unclear it defeats the whole purpose of having one! Give access to your page quickly and easily by using your Facebook button, Instagram bio and other social media accounts to link directly to the page. And don’t forget to include it on your website’s header or even in a pop up for the special day.

One of the biggest complaints about Giving Tuesday is that you’re competing with hundreds of other organizations for donations, so why not refocus the event to benefit some of your other campaigns. 

Create special Giving Tuesday messaging to boost your existing campaign, be it a  capital campaign, program launch or event coming up for your organization. Giving Tuesday provides an opportunity to join in a conversation and share your story, so use it to your advantage. 

Promote a Peer-to-Peer Fundraising System

Your best resource is your donor base! Utilize this resource by asking them to share your page, use the #GivingTuesday in their networks, and spread awareness on your behalf. They are the ones most likely to donate to your cause, so chances are they will be willing to help you out with your social media campaign. Warm-up your supporters in advance and encourage them to think of unique or interesting ways to fundraise through their networks, even if it's just to reach out online and say hi!

Ask them to create their own fundraising pages on your peer to peer platform (make sure you are all set up for third party fundraising!) or, if you haven’t yet found your perfect peer to peer solution, you can encourage them to set up a Facebook fundraiser (just be aware that you won’t be able to access any donor’s information who donations through Facebook)You can send an email encouraging them to hold their fundraisers with post templates to make posting as easy as possible for your donors.  Don’t forget to provide them with all the information they need to speak to the critical work you do, and why you need their support. 

Make sure you are also setting specific goals to get people motivated to give! There is nothing more rewarding than reaching a fundraising goal. 

Hold a Livestream 

Plan something fun, and hold a Livestream! There are so many ways you can use s livestream to create a Giving Tuesday campaign that stands out. You can hold off to the end of your Giving Tuesday campaign to provide a live reaction to hitting your goal, or a storytelling session or an art class and encourage donations. If your organization supports a cause related to health, you can have an information session where people give advice, information or share experiences with an audience.

Tell Your Story Using Video

Giving Tuesday is a busy day, not only for you but also for your supporters. Their feeds are probably crowded with different nonprofits trying to get their attention (and dollars). Videos are a great way to cut through the noise and speak directly to your audience by telling a story. 

Social video receives 1200% more shares than text and image posts combined, and there are easy to make. All you need is 
  • A main character or subject for your video, this can be your founder, executive director, volunteer or someone your organization has helped.
  • A positive message that motivates your audience to give and demonstrates the impact of their gift. 
  • A clear focus. Choose 2-3 specific messages and try to keep it brief, focusing on the "why” of your cause.
